PC: I will never be impresses with how someone navigates the great times, I will determine my opinion after I see them in the darkest of times.
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:1-8
When we create the darkness?
When we think too much, our minds go dark, and we try to be “rational”? And David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish someday by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape to the land of the Philistines; 1 Sam 27:1
Now, behold, I know that you will certainly be king and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand. 1 Sam 24:20
When we deal with our cloudy consequences. Then David arose and went over with the six hundred men who were with him to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. 3 So David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, each man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail…. 1 Samuel 27:2-3
Consequential Math: David, his family, and 600 more households.
Reminder: The innocent around us will become contaminated by our dark choices!
The Enemy’s Dark Lies:
False sense of Security And it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath; so he sought him no more. 1 Sam 27:4
Submission to the enemy’s cause “If I have now found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?” 1 Sam 27:5
Long times of compromise 7 Now the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was one full year and four months. 1 Samuel 27:7
4 Steps of Darkness:
Loss of identity - 1 Sam 29:6-8 Loss of Satisfaction – 1 Samuel 29:8 Spins into Depression – 1 Samuel 30:1-4 Stops trusting those closest – 1 Samuel 30:6 The Way Back :
Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God 1 Sam 30:6
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to You.
Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
The God of my salvation,
And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.
O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.
Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion;
Build the walls of Jerusalem.
Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
With burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar. Psalms 51:10-19
